COURSES IN OPTOMETRY.

Courses in optometry | Optometry technicians get the job immediately after completing the course

Optometry is the course designed to teach eye care tips, diseases and their recognization methods. Optometry technicians play a vital role in helping the doctors in the eye hospitals. There is a chance of getting the job immediately after completion of this course and they can practice on their own also. There is more demand for them in foreign countries.

Courses:

Bachelor of Science in optometry:

This course is provided in BITS Pilani (off campus) and the duration of the course is 4 years. There will be classroom training, clinical training and internship. Class and laboratory work are conducted in Bausch and Lomb School of optometry in Kismatpur. Clinical training and internship should be done in LV Prasad eye hospital in Hyderabad . The eligibility for the course is 10+2/ equivalent (physics, chemistry, mathematics/biology with English knowledge)

Bachelor of optometry course:

AIIMS in New Delhi and Bharathi Vidyapeeth University in Pune are providing bachelor degree in optometry course. B.Sc (honors) in optometry is provided by IGNOU and it is providing this course with the help of Federation of Ophthalmic Research and Education Centers . The eligibility for the courses is 10+2/ equivalent. For more details, visit www. ignou.ac.in.

Diploma in ophthalmic techniques:

This course is provided by Federation of Ophthalmic Research and Education Center in Delhi . The duration of the course is 3 years and the eligibility is 10+2/equivalent. Optometry: This 4-year Integrated First Degree programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration withSankara Nethralaya – Elite School of Optometry, and at Hyderabad in collaboration with L.V. Prasad Eye Institute – Bausch & Lomb School of Optometry. Input Requirements: Pass in 10+2 from Central / State Board or its equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology.

2. B. S. Physician Assistant: This 4-year Integrated First Degree programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration with Madras Medical Mission. Input Requirements: Pass in 10+2 from Central / State Board or its equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology.

HIGHER DEGREE PROGRAMMES

3. M. S. Medical Laboratory Technology: This 3-year Higher Degree programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya – Medical Research Foundation. Input Requirements: B.Sc. in experimental sciences with exposure to Biology and Chemistry, or equivalent.

4. M. Phil. Optometry: This 2-year Higher Degree programme is conducted at Chennai in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya – Medical Research Foundation. Input Requirements: B.S. Optometry of BITS, or equivalent.

Note:

The offering of the above programmes (or centres for contact sessions) is subject to availability of viable number of suitable candidates.

The candidates should be prepared to appear at Chennai / Hyderabad for a Test / Interview at their own expenses, details of which will be available on the BITS WILP website after the application deadline.
